The similar phrase 'Worldly Christianity' is one used by Bonhoeffer. It's J Gresham Machen that I want to line up most closely with. See his Christianity and culture here. Having done commentaries on Proverbs (Heavenly Wisdom) and Song of Songs (Heavenly Love), a matching title for Ecclesiastes would be Heavenly Worldliness. For my stance on worldliness, see 3 posts here.

Carey Conference Final Day Final Session

It was left to Rupert Bentley-Taylor to close this excellent conference. It was good to end with preaching. On the power of the gospel, he spoke from 1 Corinthians 1:14-2:5. His points were as follows

1. The nature of the gospel
1. About Christ
2. About power

2. The attack on the gospel
1. From within the church
2. From society around us
  • sees the gospel as foolishness, verse 18
  • demands alternatives, verse 22

3. The triumph of the gospel
1. God has made foolish the wisdom of the world
2. God has chosen to use preaching
3. God brings people to faith
4. God humbles the preacher
